Manual Lymphatic Drainage

WHAT DOES MLD FEEL LIKE

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle and rhythmic modality that follows a pattern to move the lymphatic fluid by gently stretching the skin. The light pressure decreases the sympathetic mode (fight or flight) and increases a parasympathetic response (rest and digest) in the body. MLD may also have and analgesic affect, as it can assist the body with the drainage of substances that build up in the tissues as a result of pain.

HOW LONG OF A SESSION SHOULD I SCHEDULE

A full body (front & back) takes 90 minutes to complete. Unless you have received MLD in the past, I recommend starting with a 60 minute session as any longer could be too overwhelming. 60 minutes allows for work on the entire front of the body, including and face and abdomen, and is plenty sufficient as most of the major drainage points are located on the front side of the body. If you are just wanting MLD on a specific area due to swelling from and injury or surgery then 30 minutes may be all you need. Please feel free to reach out to me if you are unsure how long of a session to schedule.

MLD FOR POST COSMETIC/PLASTIC SURGERY

I do offer MLD services for those who have received cosmetic surgeries such as Lipo 360, BBL’s ect. I will only schedule you for services after any drains have been removed. I will not work on anyone that still has drains in place. Please ask your surgeon when starting MLD sessions would be best for you.

MLD FOR LYMPHEDEMA

MLD is wonderful for maintaining lymphedema and may help to increase overall comfort. For lymphedema specifically, MLD reroutes the flow of lymph around blocked areas into healthy lymph vessels which then drain into the venous system.
